The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is a globally leading multidisciplinary research institute of over 900 staff investigating the spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders causing dementia, driving a step change in our understanding of neurodegeneration, and accelerating the discovery, development and delivery of interventions that will help diagnose, treat, and ultimately prevent dementia.
The UK DRI’s Business and Innovation team is responsible for advancing research discoveries through partnership to improve the lives of people living with neurodegenerative conditions.
The Strategic Partnership Manager (Translation) is responsible for proactively managing UK DRI’s £30 million translational partnership with LifeArc and other key industry-led strategic translational partnerships. Key responsibilities of the role include:
(i) active engagement with the UK DRI research community to promote funding opportunities, identify appropriate projects, assist with proposal preparation, present opportunities to the funding review committee, and manage funded projects;
(ii) act as the primary point of contact for the strategic partnership governance committee including monitoring and reporting on programme budgets. The successful person will have a strong neuroscience or life science research background, experience in liaising with researchers to identify new discovery science with translational applications, and enjoys working with multiple stakeholders to proactively manage, report on and deliver a large portfolio of translational projects.
About You
- Post-graduate qualification (PhD or MSc or equivalent) in Neuroscience or Life Sciences
- A critical thinker with experience evaluating, developing and executing commercial exploitation plans for research-based innovation projects
- Formal project management experience in a science or technical environment with demonstrable ability to proactively identify and address issues
- Experience of working with academic researchers, pharmaceutical companies and investors
- Highly collaborative, diplomatic and autonomous, with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships at all levels in the organisation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Significant experience of communicating at all levels, and able to produce clear and concise documentation synthesising complex information
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to pro-actively manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
- Forward thinking and adaptable, thrives in a small team environment, and enthusiastically keeps up to date with sector trends
- Strong IT skills and financially literate, capable of managing and reporting on multi-million, multi-year budgets
